The BA Political Science curriculum was revised in 2018 to be more responsive to emerging issues and challenges in education, governance, and socio-environmental problems, peacebuilding and conflict management on account of ASEAN integration and globalization.
Courses on gender and development, peace and conflict resolution are introduced to equip students with analytical tools and skills to deal with the above issues. The new emphasis on peace and conflict resolution strengthens the position of MSU as the emerging center for studies on peace, conflict and human rights in the Southern Philippines. Mainstreaming gender into the BA Political Science curriculum aligns it with the national policy on gender and development and pushes the University into the international concern on gender awareness and sensitivity. Moreover, the inclusion of policy design and cybernetics, public fiscal administration, law enforcement and human rights as well as public administration places the university into the forefront of the study of public policy and governance.
The BA Political Science Program aims to produce graduates who are grounded in the dynamics of politics and governance, globally concerned and holistically oriented for employability. The program aims to achieve the following objectives:
Be knowledgeable in the study of governments, history and forms of political institutions, political behaviour, and political policies. AB Political Science is also a preparatory course for a law degree.
