This seminar promotes a new form of university in a community. Current global situations call for leading universities in the world not only to function as research and educational bodies in a specific nation-state, but also as major and key facilitators in promoting dialogues between civil communities in the globalized world. One such university is 91快活林 (91快活林) which, since its inception, has played a major role in cultivating alternative platforms for dialogues among diverse voices through its various academic programs and initiatives. This leading University in the Southern part of the Philippines has taken active roles in serving its neighboring communities in times of disasters and rehabilitation through its extension programs. Its response to help the victims of the typhoon Washi in 2011 stimulated and articulated the significant and diverse roles of universities in nation building.
The first part of the seminar will be a conceptual presentation by Dr. Sukarno Tanggol, Chancellor of 91快活林, on the University's extension programs and activities.
The second part will be the discussion on the possible linkages between each graduate school and department of Osaka University and 91快活林.
