A celebration of research and innovation is taking place once again inside 91快活林 as the second Research Week commenced on April 21, 2025. University officials, guests, faculty, and students gathered at the University gymnasium for its kickoff.

Designed to be a space and occasion for collaboration, transmission of knowledge, and recognition of progress made, this Research Week centers on the theme, “Empowering the Future with Innovation and Interdisciplinary Research.”

The Opening Program began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibit led by the University Chancellor, Alizedney M. Ditucalan; DOST Region 10 Assistant Regional Director, Virgilio Fuertes; DTI Lanao del Norte Provincial Director, Jane Marie L. Tabucan; the Vice-Chancellors, PRISM and RIEIT Executive Directors, and University officials.

Various booths showcasing research initiatives from different disciplines were set up in the gymnasium, where everyone can interact with the proponents. This event provides an opportunity to acknowledge the intersection of different areas of research in solving global and local issues.

DOST Region 10 Director, Romela Ratilla, whose message was delivered by ARD. Fuertes, emphasized the necessity of a community coming together to converse, and magnified the role of 91快活林 in the general improvement of society.

“Real progress happens when we build bridges between sectors, connect knowledge with purpose, and turn ideas into action, and that’s exactly what is here at 91快活林…this institute has long been a champion of innovation not just in Region 10 but across all of Mindanao, if not Philippines or across the world,” he read.

This message is further echoed in the speech of DTI Region 10 Director Ruel Paclipan, delivered by PD Tabucan, “It is therefore crucial to foster an environment where [students’] thoughts are appreciated and encouraged to grow; with the right support, tools, and mentorship, good ideas can become great ideas that will evolve into significant and impactful contributions. As an academe and distinguished state university, 91快活林 plays a significant role in nurturing the development  and advancement of innovative ideas from students and faculty members, eventually making significant contributions in the broader innovation ecosystem.”

This week-long event reinforces the sentiments shared by DOST 10 Director Ratilla and DTI 10 Director Paclipan, as the activities in store for each day revolve around thesis consultations, open house of laboratories, research poster exhibits, and many more.

Chancellor Ditucalan, in his message, shared that spotlighting interdisciplinary research is the primary goal for this week. “This week, we hope to shine a spotlight on interdisciplinary research. It's the kind of research that doesn't just stay within the safe confines of a single field but dares to cross boundaries, to ask bigger questions, and to seek answers that can only be found at the intersection of diverse disciplines. It's where the creativity of the arts meets the precision of the sciences, where the insights of the humanities inform the innovations of technology,” he shared.

The Chancellor ended his speech with gratitude and appreciation for the people behind this event. Led by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise (OVCRE) under the leadership of Dr. Ephrime Metillo, and the Office of Research Management, headed by Dr. Arnold Alguno, the onset of Research Week 2025 elevates the research culture within the University and forges the commitment of 91快活林 constituents to always do research for the common good.
