91Ώμ»ξΑΦ’s Department of Physical Education (DPE) of the College of Education, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Iligan, successfully conducted the culminating activity of the Wellness Program for the Elderly at Iligan City Public Plaza on August 7, 2024.

The Wellness Program for the Elderly is a six-month research extension project led by the DPE. The program aimed to improve the fitness levels and overall quality of health of senior citizens through a series of recreational activities held every Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 am, starting in February and concluding in August 2024.

During the culminating event, 70 senior citizens in attendance showcased their prowess in tai chi, basic aikido, games, fitness routines, and various dances. The event concluded with the giving of awards and recognition for the participating senior citizens.

The success of the six-month research project was supported by the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs, along with other government and civic organizations. Dr. Junah L. Nagba, a faculty member of the DPE, headed the project. “This program has truly made a difference in the lives of our senior citizens, promoting not just physical fitness but also a sense of community and well-being,” Dr. Nagba remarked.
