To recognize the contributions and achievements of 91¿ì»îÁÖ athletes, especially during their participation and wins in the recent MSUSAA at MSU-Gensan, the first Outstanding 91¿ì»îÁÖ Athletes Recognition (OMAR) Awards was organized and held on August 15, 2024, at the University Gymnasium.
Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan graced the event and expressed that he is glad that the University is finally giving recognition to the efforts of the athletes. Vice-Chancellor for Public Affairs, Dr. Nancy Echavez, also gave an inspirational message and greeted the students with enthusiasm as she reminded them of the value of aiming and dreaming high to hit the mark. She also emphasized and reminded the students that the ultimate goal of life is happiness.
The guest speaker for this awarding was Asst. Prof. Joshua B. Zoleta, a former Titans volleyball player. He shared in his speech the importance of knowing how to set your priorities. As a student-athlete, one should also still be able to maintain their grades, he said.
During the ceremony, student-athletes from the different sports categories received their certificates of recognition. BS Philosophy student Alsadjaik Y. Sabdul was also recognized for his achievement as the 2023 Armed Forces of the Philippines Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Male Cadet of the Year.
With the aspiration to strengthen the sports community at the University, the 25 freshmen who were admitted through the special admission for those who excel in sports brought about by the approved Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) policy before the academic year, were acknowledged and introduced.
The Office of Sports Development Director, Asst. Prof. Leo Santillana said in an interview that the OMAR Awards is necessary as it inspires athletes to do more. Moreover, he added that this awarding will be a great motivation for those who want to pursue and further their athletic career.
